Back in the ‘good old days’ liveaboards weren’t the floating hotels that they are now. Liveaboards were primarily about getting the divers to the hard-to-reach dive sites and then giving them somewhere to sleep. We wanted to change that view and provide our customers with a far better experience above the water as well as below.
In 2005, Blue O Two reinvented the scuba diving liveaboard experience altogether and we have been leading the way ever since. We introduced larger cabins, Egyptian cotton sheets, in-cabin entertainment, en-suite bathrooms, amazing chefs, highly trained crew, great dive guides, spacious saloons, jacuzzis and so much more. We have implemented huge changes in the day-to-day running of our business onboard our vessels as well as our offices around the world to ensure we make as little impact on the environment as possible.
We’ve done the obvious things such as becoming single-use plastic-free, changing our office paper to Woodland Trust paper, working with leading charities and organisations such as Bite-Back and Manta Trust, switched to eco-friendly cleaning products onboard the vessels, maximising the resource efficiency of our UK office, training the crew, finding ways to save fuel, carbon neutral promotional printing, organic cotton merchandise, environmentally focused clean-up dive itineraries, car sharing and so much more.
It’s not just about our work day, our staff are passionate about Responsible Tourism and can often be spotted doing weekend beach clean ups, coming up with new solutions to make us even more environmentally friendly, and raising money for organisations leading the charge against ocean pollution.
Diving is awesome and we want future generations to share the same inspirational experiences we’ve had in the ocean. This can only happen if companies like ours step up and not only ‘do our bit’ but push further and fundamentally change the way we think about the environment and how we interact with it as a business long-term.
