While some batteries may be available to purchase on board, please bring extras if your personal dive equipment may require a unique size. Because of the remote locations in which our vessels operate, there is limited or no access to battery recycling facilities. To help us with responsible tourism we kindly request you bring home your own spent batteries to be recycled or disposed of properly. Alternatively, consider using rechargeable batteries as there are plenty of sockets to plug in a charger on board.

Coronavirus: Travel Restrictions2020-03-23T04:14:20+01:00

Travel restrictions have been put in place, and are constantly being updated by Governments of the following destinations in relation to the spread of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) and travelling from or through China, and other affected countries:

  • Bahamas*
  • Ecuador
  • Egypt
  • Federated States of Micronesia (Truk Lagoon)
  • French Polynesia
  • Indonesia
  • Maldives
  • Myanmar
  • Palau
  • Papua New Guinea
  • Philippines
  • Solomon Islands
  • Thailand

*Effective from midnight on 13th March 2020, the US have imposed a 30 day ban on travellers from most European countries, apart from the UK and Ireland. The ban applies to anyone who has been in any of the 26 countries which make up the  EU’s Schengen border-free area within 14 days prior to their arrival in the US. Transit through Australia

With the exception of Australian nationals, or permanent residents and their families, the following are not allowed to transit or enter Australia:

  1. Passengers who have transited through or have been in China (People’s Rep.) in the past 14 days.
  2. Passengers who have been in the cruise ship ‘Diamond Princess’.
  3. Passengers who have transited through or have been in Iran on or after 1 March 2020 are not allowed to enter Australia for 14 days, from the time they left or transited through Iran.
  4. Passengers who have transited through or have been in Korea (Rep.) on or after 2100 AEDST 5 March 2020 are not allowed to enter Australia for 14 days, from the time they left or transited through Korea (Rep.).
  5. Passengers who have transited through or have been in Italy on or after 1800 AEDST 11 March 2020 are not allowed to enter Australia for 14 days, from the time they left or transited through Italy.

All other passengers, including Australian Nationals or permanent residents are required to self-isolate for a period of 14 days from their arrival into Australia.

Transit through New Zealand

Passengers who have transited through or have been in China (People’s Rep.) or Iran in the past 14 days, will not be allowed to transit or enter New Zealand.

– This does not apply to nationals of Australia and New Zealand and their immediate family members, or New Zealand residents.

Do I need travel and diving insurance?2019-11-28T05:48:27+01:00

Insurance which covers scuba diving activities and emergencies is a mandatory requirement on all of our vessels.

Blue O Two strongly recommends that all guests also carry full travel and cancellation insurance as we cannot be held liable for delays which occur during the cruise, nor any delays or cancellations of the flights, accommodation, tours & transfers which we organise on your behalf. Your insurance must cover all of your scuba diving and snorkeling activities, including the type of diving and depths you will be doing, and the costs for emergency air evacuation and recompression treatment.

Many standard travel insurance policies will cover scuba diving activities, with depth limitations, but often fall short on fully covering costs in the event of a diving accident and related treatment. We therefore strongly recommend purchasing diving specific insurance to cover any eventuality.

Nautilus Lifelines are no longer available on any of our boats but, guests who have their own are welcome to bring them. Divers who do not have their own location devices can rent a Surface Safety Kit on board. The kits include visible surface markers, a dive alert air-horn and high lumen strobe light.

The Marine Park and Port Fees for our trips are dependent upon the country, itinerary, and often, trip duration. Some must be prepaid in advance of your departure and others can be paid onboard. Please check with our team for further information about your booking.

The makeup of these fees vary across all of our vessels and itineraries and though they are normally referred to as Marine Park and Port Fees, or even simply Marine Park Fees, they are generally much more varied than that. These extra fees relate to expenses that are assigned by marine parks, local authorities, governmental agencies, or similar; and relate directly to costs assigned to each guest on-board at the time of departure.

Official government costs might include obvious things such as park fees, permits/permissions, and local taxes. Less obvious elements may come in the form of more prosaic costs such as local village fees such as are paid in the Solomon Islands (commonly called Kastom Fees) and Raja Ampat. On top of this, the actual fees may be for several parks, regions, or villages in a single trip. Palau and The Philippines, for instance, will have at least three such separate fees built in on most cruises.

Park fees and diving permits generally make up the majority of the extra costs, however, this is not always the case. In The Maldives, the fee is entirely ‘Green Tax’ and the fee in Truk includes a portion of the 5% sales tax due on an accommodation booking and sales made onboard (which many operators charge on top of any payments). Palau also has a ‘bed tax’ that is built into the fees.

Our policy is such that our Marine Park and Port Fees are not extra income for the company. The fees are collected to cover the above per customer costs that are accrued on each trip for each client.

If your flight connection time in Australia is longer than 8 hours, or you wish to extend and stay in the country for several days, you will need a transit visa, visitor visa or ETA, depending on your travel plans and itinerary.

All travellers transiting through United States territories to other destinations are required to obtain a transit visa before commencing their journey. This includes guests travelling to via Guam to Palau, Chuuk, Yap, and the Marshall Islands.

Citizens of countries who are eligible to enter the United States under the Visa Waiver Program need to obtain an ESTA (Electronic System of Travel Authorization) at least 72 hours before travelling. Please refer to the US Department of Homeland Security’s ESTA information page for further details and to apply: esta.cbp.dhs.gov/

With effect from 1st October 2019, all guests travelling via Auckland International Airport are required to hold a transit visa or NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority). Some travellers may also need to pay an International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) depending on their travel plans.
