Galapagos: Simply The Best Diving in the World

.

There are few places in the world where you can tick such a variety of sightings off your bucket-list at the same time. Famed for being a ‘one of a kind’ destination, the Galapagos Islands will dazzle you with their variety of creatures.

The Galapagos Islands in Ecuador are renowned for offering the world’s most spectacular underwater action: huge schools of hammerheads, silky sharks, Galapagos sharks, eagle rays, whale sharks, mantas, mola molas, marine iguanas, sea lions, Galapagos penguins and much, much more. The remote location of the islands; almost 1400kms west of the Ecuadorian coast in the middle of the Pacific Ocean is the main reason for the unprecedented biodiversity. The presence of so many unique species you can’t find anywhere else in the world makes the Galapagos Islands high on any diver’s must-dive list.

Underwater, the Galapagos Islands are influenced by 3 main ocean currents: the Panama Current from the northeast, the Humboldt Current (Peru Coastal Current) from the south and the Cromwell Current (South Pacific Counter Current) from the west. These currents bring along massive schools of fish, which are so dense that they have the ability to turn day into night when you find yourself engulfed in the middle of them.

On land, there are many kinds of endemic birds, such as the blue-footed boobies and frigates. Your liveaboard holiday will not be complete without the island visits to see these iconic birds, plus the huge tortoises, marine iguanas, and lava herons the Galapagos are famous for. The Galapagos Islands are as varied and impressive on land as they are underwater.

.

The secluded location of the Galapagos Islands urged both underwater life and land-based flora & fauna to evolve and adapt to local circumstances in order to survive, creating the hundreds of unique species currently found here. Charles Darwin’s famous book ‘On the Origin of Species’ is entirely based on the research he did in the Galapagos Islands.

Regarded as a ‘world within itself’ you can expect your breathtaking experience to the Galapagos Islands to leave you with unforgettable memories set to last you for a life-time.
